Am I an angsty drama queen? Was Sean right when he asked if I looked for trouble just to create an interesting blog?
Maybe.
Because the last few days have been practically perfect. This doesn’t happen often when bike packing. So, what could I possibly write about that was interesting?
Could I write about the nice breakfast buffet at the lovely river front hotel in an incredibly scenic section of the Danube? Or that the ride was actually, truly, flat with mostly perfect surfaces making 40 miles feel more like 25?

There was the section along the famous Schlögener Schlingen bend with views of forests, glassy water and little boats tied to the docks. Above all this, castles dotting the hillsides. Did I mention almost constant birdsong?

We crossed the river on ferries three times. Each time, we arrived just as the ferry docked and boarded without a wait. The riverside cappuccinos were delicious as was the minestrone soup with homemade bread.

As expected, riding into the city of Linz was busy and noisy, but it was easy to navigate.
Our hotel, while a little boring, was exceptionally comfortable. We were within a short walk of a pharmacy and were able to pick up needed supplies.
The next two days proved to be amazing as well. A spin through Enns, the oldest town in Austria was lovely. Then along another gorgeous span of river through ancient towns with winding streets. A night in a small hotel built in 1596.

The Abbey at Melk was truly magnificent as was the cake and coffee for our “second breakfast”. We did get a little rain one day, but that was offset by a tail wind that boosted our riding speed by a few miles per hour.

No problems or misunderstandings. No big “ahha” moments. Just really nice days of riding, enjoying the views and laughing over a glasses of beer.
Clearly, not much to write about.
